Description
Little is known about 20471120’s 97-98 AW Collection, “HEAD IBOO’S 55”, but this jacket lives to tell the tale of the collection’s fantastical lore.
The September 1997 volume of FRUiTS Magazine spotlights Nakagawa and Lica’s creative process behind the collection, rounding off this interview feature with a “HEAD IBOO’S 55” themed giveaway for 5 lucky fans.
Each gift set contained two rare keepsakes from the show: a staff windbreaker jacket and a Hyoma booklet — a 10-page manga following Hyoma in an Earth under attack by the Head Iboo Empire Army — which also doubled as an invitation to the show.
The runway, titled “20471120 VS HANAYASHIKI”, staged the turbulent lore behind the collection — the Head Iboo Empire Army’s attack on Earth — across the rollicking landscape of the Hanayashiki Amusement Park in Asakusa. The collection combines Nakagawa’s reptilian visualisation of the Head Iboo Empire with clean-lined tailored looks, invoking reptilian aesthetics not only texturally, as is often done in fashion, but in profile as well.
The design on the back of the jacket features 20471120’s mascot, mecha-clad Hyoma, with a reptilian character, invoking the collection’s motifs of otherworldly encounter.
The two markings on Hyoma’s face — “Monster” and “大冒険” (Japanese for “Great Adventure”) — distill the collection’s epic essence, translating it into Hyoma’s playful manga style.
